Director's Chair: Honoring Your Creative Voice

This message comes to you from an 6:00 AM Product Content Shoot for McKinley Modern, LLC in Cincinnati, Ohio in partnership with Amazon Home.

Early morning grind, You know the grind doesn't stop (laughs). It's 5:30 AM and I'm getting up dressed to conduct a product content shoot for McKinley Modern in Cincinnati. I'm in Downtown Cincinnati for one of my sorority sisters bridal shower, but I used this time to conduct this product shoot for McKinley Modern's collection of luxury incense within a new creative space.

It's early AF and I'm just trying to wake my brain up. So, I take my dog, Jax, on a quick 20 minute walk. This is usually the time I slow my thoughts down to be able to sort through my mind.

On this walk I'm thinking of the vision of the shoot and I try to approach every creative session with grace because things change lol. And, when it does change, a real creative will adjust accordingly.

No forcing, Just flowing.

I usually write a skeleton framework of what I want to get completed within the shoot to do the following things:

  1. Maintain a steady process flow to be able to direct all parties involved
  2. Create a detailed list of a products and supplies needed and attach them to the process flow

If I'm hyper focused on a vision I will make a mood board, but this content shoot was one where it was time to honor my creative voice. On my walk I'm admiring my new environment. I'm from Dayton, but I've never spent lengthy amounts of time in Cincinnati. So the new environment is both calming and inspiring while I sort out the flow of this content shoot.

I'm not listening to music while I'm walking just steady moving with my sunglasses on, high key talking to myself while walking lol. What I was inspired by was my creative voice saying to follow these few concepts during the product shoot:

  1. Keep It Light - Sometimes the vision we have created in our minds and the vision in real time don't add up. So don't get frustrated or overwhelmed.

    Go With It.

         2. Embrace the Newness - Use the new creative space to give a fresh look.

    Change Your Environment.

With these things in mind, I return from our walk and spark  McKinley Modern incense. It's time to get it started, so I turn on some music and begin to follow my creative voice. This content shoot was special because it represented growth of my personal self and my business. Here I am in Ohio, conducting a product shoot for the largest e-commerce company in the World. Full circle moment!

I wanted to share this with my McKinley Modern audience to ensure you all are following your creative voice in this season. Allowing yourself the opportunity to be free and just flow without fear of judgement or concern. I also want to inspire you all to stay the course and step outside of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself, but stay true to creative voice.

    With Love,
